The Pulitzer Prize in 1953 for The Old Man and the Sea and the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1954 went to the American writer Hernest Hemingway (July 21, 1899 – July 2, 1961) , representative of the so-called Lost Generation.

His major novel  The Sun Also Rises, published in 1926 focus on a group of expatriate Americans during the 1920s. the experiences of Jake Barnes and several friends on their travel to Pamplona for the annual fiesta and bull fights, known as the running of the bulls or encierro.  Hemingway´s original title for the work was Fiesta, which was used in the British, German and Spanish editions of the novel.

Pamplona is famous worldwide for the San Fermin festival or Sanfermines to the local population, from July 6 to 14 with the running of the bulls as its main attractions. This fiesta become so famous all around the world thanks to Hemingway  and his novel.  Time magazine included the novel in its TIME 100 Best English-language Novels from 1923 to 2005.

Pamplona is the capital city of the Chartered Community of Navarre and the former kingdom of Navarre. In this region, bulls are not only the protagonist but the pigs also take part in cuisine and cultural life. It is located in Gorraiz, in the surroundings of Pamplona. Tafalla is a town with a cultural-culinary association called El Cuto Divino. In «tafallesa» way of speaking «cuto»  means pig. They raffle a pig every year since 1814, they have got a pig song, poems, special clothes similar to traditional pig trader clothes, their own magazine, pork meat recipes… You can also find  a lot of proverbs refering to pig such as «The best fish, the pig»  or  «Who slaughters a pig early, enjoys a good winter but  a bad summer» .

This association takes part  in FECOGA (Gastronomic Association Confederation)  together  with  others  based on  delicious ingredients  such as txistorra, Eibar cod, Tolosa beans, Salmon, Idiazabal cheese,  sider, Cantabrian anchovies, Beasain blood sausage or black pudding, txacoli ..
